Nuclear security  ensures that nuclear materials and facilities are protected against unauthorized access, theft, or misuse.

Safeguards refer to Canada’s international commitments to track and account for nuclear materials under agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Security and safeguards requirements are embedded in CNSC licensing conditions and include inspections, material accounting systems, and physical protection measures.
