GOVERNMENT ROLES
Federal - Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC)
The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) is responsible for leading federal impact assessments for designated projects, including certain nuclear projects that meet regulatory thresholds. IAAC assessments consider environmental, health, social, and economic effects, as well as impacts on Indigenous Nations and communities.
For municipalities, IAAC processes may run in parallel with CNSC licensing processes and can include:
- opportunities for public and municipal participation;
- access to participant funding programs; and
- a public registry of project documentation and decisions.
